Another departure in FC Bayern: After Lahm and Rummenigge, Beckenbauer leaves the club
"No longer the FC Bayern as we know it"
Franz Beckenbauer leaves the club and resigns all his offices
Munich - Franz Beckenbauer leaves FC Bayern Munich. As the club announced on Monday, the 78-year-old, who has held various positions at the German record champions, has resigned from all his offices with immediate effect. This concerns the posts of Honorary President, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of FC Bayern München AG and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Allianz Arena München Stadion GmbH.Beckenbauer is considered one of the most important figures in FC Bayern's history. As a player, he won the World Cup with Germany in 1974, as a coach in 1990, and as Honorary President, he shaped the club for many years.
"My heart will always beat for FC Bayern Munich," Beckenbauer is quoted in a statement from the club. "But after careful consideration, I have decided to resign from all my offices with immediate effect. I would like to thank the club and all the fans for the exceptional time we had together."
The departure of Beckenbauer is another turning point for FC Bayern. In recent years, the club have had to say goodbye to many of their former greats. In 2019, Honorary President Uli Hoeneß resigned, and in 2022, honorary chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge followed suit.
"FC Bayern Munich will no longer be the same without Franz Beckenbauer," said club president Herbert Hainer. "But we respect his decision and wish him all the best for the future."
