FIFA World Cup Qualifying: CONMEBOL Standings and Play-Off Details

On August 22, 2022, the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) submitted a request to FIFA to maintain the existing qualifying format for the 2026 World Cup. This format, used since 1998, involves a round-robin tournament among all 10 CONMEBOL member associations.

Qualified Teams and Play-Off Details

The top four teams from the CONMEBOL qualifiers will qualify directly for the 2026 World Cup. The fifth-placed team will advance to an intercontinental play-off against a team from another confederation for an additional berth.

Current Standings

The 2023-25 CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers are underway, with the first four rounds of fixtures scheduled for September and October 2023. The current standings after the first three rounds are as follows: 1. Argentina (9 points) 2. Brazil (9 points) 3. Uruguay (7 points) 4. Ecuador (6 points) 5. Colombia (6 points) 6. Paraguay (5 points) 7. Chile (4 points) 8. Peru (4 points) 9. Bolivia (3 points) 10. Venezuela (0 points)
