PL Cup report | Sheff United 3-0 Wolves
Billy Sharp scores twice as Blades thrash Wolves to make winning return
Billy Sharp scored twice on his return to the Sheffield United side as the Blades thrashed Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0 in the Premier League Cup on Wednesday afternoon.
Sharp, who had been out injured since August, opened the scoring in the first half with a penalty, before adding a second after the break.
Oli McBurnie also got on the scoresheet for the Blades, who made it two wins from two in the competition.
Blades dominate from the start
The Blades started the game brightly and took the lead in the 12th minute when Sharp was brought down in the area by Wolves goalkeeper Jackson Smith.
Sharp stepped up to take the penalty and made no mistake, sending Smith the wrong way.
The Blades continued to dominate the game and should have extended their lead before half-time, but McBurnie and Rhian Brewster both missed good chances.
Sharp doubles Blades lead
The Blades eventually got their second goal in the 55th minute when Sharp headed home from close range after a cross from George Baldock.
The goal killed off any hopes of a Wolves comeback and the Blades went on to add a third in the 75th minute when McBurnie fired home from inside the area.
The win takes the Blades to the top of Group B in the Premier League Cup, with two wins from two.
